The Sol station will close on the busiest days at Christmas and unique pedestrian directions can be established

The Sol Metro and Renfe station will close on the busiest days during Christmas, from 6 to 9 p.m., and access to Preciados and Carmen streets in the center of the capital may be limited, as well as a single pedestrian direction of access if necessary.

This was explained by the vice mayor of Madrid and spokesperson for the municipal government, Inma Sanz, who reported on the special device at a press conference on the occasion of this year's Christmas holidays. It will come into operation today coinciding with the turning on of the Christmas lights and will last until the night of Sunday, January 7.

In this way, Sanz has reported that the Municipal Police will be able to establish a one-way pedestrian path if necessary in Preciados and Carmen. If so, Preciados will be accessed only through Puerta del Sol, closing access through Callao Street and diverting pedestrians through Carmen Street.

Meanwhile, Calle del Carmen will be accessed only through Callao, closing access through Puerta del Sol and diverting pedestrians through Preciados. Once inside Preciados or Carmen streets, you can go to one or the other through the transversal roads.

In the case of Plaza de Celenque (Cortylandia), the flow of people would be redirected to other roads (Arenal, Mayor, etc.) and, on Postas Street, only access to the Plaza Mayor from Calle Mayor would be enabled.

In general, if the influx of people in an area increases significantly and to prevent its safety from being compromised, municipal agents may temporarily restrict access to the area until the risk disappears.

Coordination will also be established with those responsible for Metro and Renfe services, as well as with the National Police and Samur-Civil Protection. In this sense, the Sol station will be closed on the busiest days from 6 to 9 p.m., and if necessary at other times, with different scenarios planned. In addition, your entries and exits will be ordered when appropriate.

The municipal agents will have the support of the drones of the Air Support Section, as well as the Canine Section and the horse patrol of the Squad Unit (in several areas of the Center), together with the Central Security Police Station and the Night Citizen Protection Police Station, among other units.
