The Sesé Foundation helps 200 babies from vulnerable families have milk

The Sesé Foundation, created in 2013 thanks to the support of Grupo Sesé, an international transportation and logistics company, emerged as an initiative promoted by the brothers Ana and Alfonso Sesé. Its main objectives are to promote social action programs, create job opportunities for people with disabilities and at risk of social exclusion and provide training for both unemployed people and those who are already employed.

In the social field, the Sesé Foundation has been carrying out the project called “Food Assistance” since June 2020, whose objective is to provide assistance and transportation between the Food Bank and the parishes of San Pedro Apóstol and San Juan de la Cruz in Zaragoza. . In addition, since October 2019 it has had the Delicias Family Dining Room, the soup kitchen managed by the Sesé Foundation and the parish of San Pedro Arbués. Thanks to this initiative, 154,477 kilos of food have been transported and 27,190 solidarity menus have been served.

As for annual events, the Sesé Foundation organizes a musical gala called “En Marcha Música X” and a cycle tour per year. These events serve to raise funds for various social causes.

This year, the money raised at the musical gala will go to the 'Gota de Leche' project of the Brotherhood of the Refuge of Zaragoza, a private, non-profit charitable entity that has been providing social services to babies in families for almost four centuries. vulnerable. En Marcha Música

Since 1907, the Brotherhood of the Refuge of Zaragoza cares for more than 200 babies a year to cover vital needs such as bottles of milk, boxes of gluten-free cereals, baby food jars and diapers. In addition, they also “help families with clothing, informative talks for parents, training courses in child care and birth control and language learning,” as the Shelter explains.

To be a beneficiary of this aid, each family must present documentation to verify that they cannot meet the basic needs to raise the baby. For this reason, it is taken into account that the parents live in Zaragoza capital, the number of children and family income, among others. If the family meets the requirement, the Brotherhood of the Refuge will provide aid from the birth of the baby until thirteen or fourteen months of age. “Normally, what we have are single-parent families, unstructured families, families that do not have money,” explains Santiago Sánchez, Big Brother of the Zaragoza Refuge Brotherhood.

Nowadays, shopping in a supermarket is expensive and not all families can afford it. For this reason, the Zaragoza Refuge Brotherhood not only distributes essential food and materials so that the baby can grow healthily, but families avoid the cost of purchasing and can use it for other needs. “Prices have become very expensive. Milk is expensive, diapers are expensive. In general, baby care is not on the rise for everyone and being able to subsidize the purchase makes families more relaxed,” says Sánchez.

The first edition, in 2017, raised 31,530 euros that went to five entities that help people with autism. In 2018, the Sesé Foundation held the gala against childhood cancer and raised 36,554 euros to build a movie theater for children hospitalized at the Miguel Servet Maternal and Child University Hospital in Zaragoza. Currently, this initiative, which began five years ago, continues to function thanks to Sesé's volunteer work, going every Tuesday to screen films for the admitted children.

In parallel with the musical galas, the foundation organizes a cycling tour a year. The fifth edition of the “Sesé Bike Tour” took place in May 2023, where 821 participants signed up to support mental health, prevention and the comprehensive development of children and youth. Thanks to the race, 17,500 euros were raised, a fund that was destined to ASAPME-Aragón (Aragonese Association for Mental Health) to support the “El Sitio mi Re-Creo” program, a free space for low-income families in which Psychological care is offered to minors, family therapy, etc. In the previous edition, in 2022, they raised 19,500 euros that went to families affected by the war in Ukraine.

In the workplace, the association offers a job in Special Employment Centers (located in Zaragoza, Jaén, Madrid and Pamplona) – created by the foundation itself – and in the company itself to people with a recognized disability equal to or greater than 33 %. Pablo Ferrán, Project Manager at the Sesé Foundation, explains that “the companies in which disabled people are offered employment are the same as the rest, the only difference is that 70% of the workers have a certified disability.”

In addition, the foundation has the Fundación Sesé Training Center, courses subsidized by the INAEM (Aragonese Institute of Employment) for employed and unemployed people. Thanks to these courses, completely free, they give people who are unemployed the opportunity to take training courses in road freight traffic or training in promotion and socio-educational intervention with people with disabilities, among others.
