The secret message hidden in the Toblerone logo

Its flavor of milk chocolate, almond nougat and honey is known all over the world. Although there are many who eat this chocolate with its recognizable aesthetics, not many know the secret message hidden in the Toblerone logo. To discover it, according to TicBeat, you have to know about tradition and geography.

While other brands show off the founder of the company or the characteristics of the ingredients that make up their product in their graphic image, Toblerone took another, much more original path. Neither the chocolate itself, nor the signature after its creation were the recognizable elements, but rather a mountain that hides a mystery.

The silhouette of the logo is none other than that of the Matterhorn, one of the most famous mountains in the Alps for its markedly pyramidal structure. Recently, the brand was forced to remove the mountain silhouette from its logo when moving part of its production out of Switzerland.

It is located between Switzerland and Italy and is the fifth highest point in the Alps. Since the brand is Swiss, this mountainous reference was ideal to capture the identity, strictly related to the design of the chocolate that is divided into small triangles.

But beyond Mount Cervino, Toblerone hides another secret, since inside the pyramid the silhouette of a bear can be glimpsed. Why this animal?

It has an important cultural value, since this mammal is the official symbol of Bern, the Swiss city in which Toblerone was founded 110 years ago. Thus, this bear is a tribute to the place of birth of the brand.

If you notice, the simple sketch on a snowy peak is actually a bear standing on its hind legs in the middle of the mountain. In fact, once you've seen it, it's impossible not to watch it again and again.

Toblerone was created by Theodor Tobler. His children have also suggested that the triangular shape actually originates from a pyramidal shape that dancers at the Folies Bergère, the famous French cabaret, created for a show.

Another controversy surrounding chocolate is that in 2016, Mondelēz unannounced launched a redesign of Toblerone for the UK market, smaller and lighter than the original.

In addition to the fact that the British bar weighs 150 grams, twenty less than the traditional one, they increased the free space between the triangles without changing the design of the packaging or the sale price.

This modification generated strong controversy and displeasure among consumers. The multinational's response was that the decision was due to the increase in production costs in British territory.
