The Ésdansa festival, dean and reference of root dance, celebrates forty years of life until August 28 with the return to the face-to-face format and with the participation of groups from Argentina, the Republic of Djibouti, Mexico, Tahiti, Slovakia and Zimbabwe.
The program also includes tributes to tango, to the choreographer Manuel Cubeles, who died in 2017, as well as shows by Esbart de Sant Cugat, the collective Llançadora and Esbart Sant Martí, as well as the screening of documentaries or a picnic in the natural surroundings of the town of Garrotxa.
The director of the event, Núria Feixas, shows her joy at recovering "the participatory part" of the festival, especially its nights, in which "attendees can dance, in a year in which we will discover the environment of tango, intangible heritage dance of The humanity". This year, in addition, the public will be able to experiment with the rhythms of the traditional dances of the Le Pount groups, from the African Republic of Djibouti; with Rahiti Rau, from Tahiti; the Great Argentine Ballet; the Liptov group from Slovakia; Ezimnyama from Zimbabwe and Macuilxóchitl, from Mexico.
During these days, the small town of Les Preses (Girona) expects to receive between 10,000 and 11,000 fans of folk dances. Other outstanding shows will be Tradere , by Laia Santanach, a proposal of contemporary dance and live electronic music that can be seen on the 24th at the Cultural Center, as well as the Involuntary Movement , by Lara Brown, a work that studies the impact of folklore in a contemporary body.
Pyrene 430 will be scheduled on the 27th and Filomena is going to the market, from Ministrils del Raval, has been prepared for the family audience. Ésdansa does not forget the traditional 'Party in the Park', with the participation of the participating international groups, a walk to the sound of its traditional music through the Parc de Pedra Tosca, a space with architecture designed by the studio RCR Arquitectes, winners of the 2017 Pritzker Prize.
