The proposal of law in favor of the prohibition of the 'correbous' will be voted on in the Parliament

The debate around the prohibition of the three most controversial modalities of correbous, deeply rooted in the Terres de l'Ebre, will continue in Parliament. A majority of deputies have rejected the two amendments to the entirety presented by PP and Vox against the bill of En Comú Podem and the Cup promoting the veto of bulls loaded (with fire), roped and at sea, the latter a modality no longer practiced in the south of Catalonia, for about ten years.

The PSC deputies have abstained en bloc, as have the vast majority of the representatives of ERC and Junts per Catalunya. The amendments to the entire PP and Vox have only added 19 votes in favor, those of Popular and Vox in addition to those of Ciutadans; 29 votes against and 82 abstentions, in a vote held in the Parliament at noon.

The bill in favor of the prohibition of the three most controversial types of correbous, alleging that animals suffer stress and physical damage, will therefore continue through the parliamentary process until opening a debate and reaching the final vote. The correbous are protected by a law approved by the majority of the Parliament of Catalonia in 2010. Since time immemorial, festivals with bous have been held normally in the Terres de l'Ebre, deeply rooted in many regions and municipalities in the south of Catalonia. . Every year more than 400 festive events with bulls are celebrated in Terres de l'Ebre, always without the death of the animal. Approximately half are bous embolats and capllaçats, while the rest are bous al carrer or a la plaça, which are outside the law that promotes the prohibition of the three modalities considered most "aggressive" by Comuns and CUP.
