The PP avoids positioning itself on the ultra initiative to ban the term Valencian Country

The PP of the Valencian Community has preferred not to take a position regarding the Popular Legislative Initiative (ILP) presented in the Valencian parliament by a group of people led by the ultra regionalist Juan García Sentandreu, which asks, among other issues, to penalize those entities, associations or parties that use the term "País Valencià" or defend the unity of the language. The popular ones say they are unaware of its content despite the fact that it has already passed through the Regional Parliament Table.

The ILP presented underlines that "it is illegal to use it by the State administration, the autonomous administrations, the departments of the Generalitat Valenciana, the provincial councils, local corporations, public administrations in general, political parties, unions, the system educational, the media, companies and business associations, entities, organizations and individuals of any other name to refer to the territorial entity made up of the former Kingdom of Valencia, especially the relative one in the Valencian Country, which is absolutely rejected by Valencian society".

Thus, the text, admitted for processing by the Les Corts Valencianes Table chaired by Vox and with a majority of the members of the Consell (PP and Vox), demands that "the Generalitat Valenciana can urge the suspension of the activities of those associations or entities private companies whose purpose is contrary to this law and, after the corresponding contradictory administrative file, decree the definitive closure". Furthermore, these entities cannot receive aid.

It must be taken into account that there are many entities and parties that use the term "País Valencià" and that they even have it registered in their acronyms such as PSPV, CCOO-PV or UGT-PV. A term that appears in the preamble of the Statute of Autonomy as the historical name of the territory, although the official name is Comunitat Valenciana.

The text adds that "if the infraction comes from a public official, it is considered a very serious offense." For this reason, "he must be immediately suspended from his duties and the corresponding disciplinary file must be opened, in accordance with applicable legislation."

At the linguistic level, it is indicated that "no Administration, political parties, unions, educational system, media, companies and business associations, entities, organizations or individuals can question the linguistic entity and the differentiated character of the Valencian language." A clear attack on the unity of the language. The promoters of the ILP defend that Valencian and Catalan are two different languages and that is how they want it to be expressed in future regulations.

Sources from the PP explain to La Vanguardia that despite the fact that it has been admitted for processing, the ILP does not have to go ahead. In fact, they point out that the popular ones, as promised by the now president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, are already working on their own Identity Signs Law, after the one that was in force was repealed when the Botànic acceded to the Consell.
