The Police arrest 'El Pastilla' in Germany a month after his escape from Alcalá Meco

The escape of Yousef Mohamed Lehrech, alias 'El Pastilla', came to an end this Thursday. A month after the prisoner – with two murders on his criminal record – managed to escape from Madrid's Alcalá-Meco prison, German authorities hunted him down at a train station in Leipzig, in eastern Germany.

The National Police, thanks to the European network of fugitives, had managed to channel the investigation until locating one of the most wanted fugitives on German soil. At the moment, the details—or clues that were planted—of the investigations that led investigators to find him are unknown.

'El Pastilla' took advantage of the visits from family and friends of prisoners that take place the day before Christmas Eve, on the occasion of Christmas. Amidst the hustle and bustle of movement, he managed to evade the surveillance of several prison officials, mixing with family members. Penitentiary Institutions have an internal investigation open to determine responsibility for one of the most notorious escapes in recent times.

According to police sources, the investigations are now focused on knowing whether 'El Pastilla', once out of prison, had support from third parties to cross several borders. He will soon be extradited to be brought to justice but it is unknown what his prison fate will be.
