The Poblenou Scene Festival celebrates its 21st anniversary with a strong female presence

The Escena Poblenou Festival returns to Barcelona with its XXI edition. This year the program has 25 proposals between scenic projects and participatory activities, where the creations of women artists stand out. From October 20 to 23, eleven spaces in the Poblenou neighborhood will be filled with life involving the public with contemporary and multidisciplinary scenic creation.

The objective of this edition, according to the organization of the festival, is to "open your eyes" and bring people back to the theater, after two years where the sector has been seriously affected by the pandemic. "It is necessary to deconfine leisure and fun" they have highlighted.

For this reason, in 2022 the Festival returns with more force, more proposals and more demands to revitalize the neighborhood. Theater, dance, clown and hybrid disciplines are once again the participatory impulse of all the days. The political charge and the cooperative nature of the Escena Poblenou projects are the hallmark of the initiative.

After 21 years and an important resonance in the cultural sector, the festival has not moved away from its roots. The priorities have always been the same: to be a platform for emerging artistic projects and to foster cooperation between citizens and the performing arts. Consequently, the Poblenou Scene Festival can never be conceived without the people of its neighborhood and its local and family character is the standard bearer.

Ada Vilaró, director of the festival, has highlighted that the organization is always aware of the inequalities that are perpetuated in the world and seek spaces to talk about them in the performing arts. Consequently, Escena Poblenou XXI has many feminine and thematic faces that seek to make visible the less favored groups in our society.

Among others, there is the Diversorium project of the EMMA company (October 22) to talk about the reality of people with functional diversity. The participatory project, The Third Assembly of the Performing Arts, will also be opened by the collective L'última merda (October 21), to discuss the precariousness of the sector and the Patronage Law. On the other hand, there will also be guest artists on an international scale, such as the Pia Fraus company and its family show Bichos (October 23), to vindicate the diversity of Brazilian fauna, threatened by human activity.

The Poblenou Scene Festival will take place between October 20 and 23 in eleven spaces in the neighborhood, including the Can Felipa Civic Center, the Casal Bac de Roda or the IES Quatre Cantons institute. You can check the complete program on the festival website, where you can also check the prices of the activities, which range between zero and twelve euros.
