One Piece Film: Red lands in Spanish cinemas, dubbed into Spanish and Catalan, after its great box office success in countries such as Japan, where it grossed more than 15 million euros in its first weekend, or France, where it has been become the most successful anime premiere in the country's history.

These figures show that One Piece is in one of its best moments. Although this is his 15th film, the loyalty of fans, of very different ages, does not vary. This 2022, in addition, celebrates its 25th anniversary and it should be said that it continues to have great influence among young people despite having more than 1,000 episodes broadcast in 80 countries and the Guinness Record awarded to the creator of the manga Eiichiro Oda for the largest number of episodes. published copies of the same series of comics by a single author.

The story focuses on Uta, who is considered to be the number one singer in the world. Although she has always hidden her identity, she is preparing for the first time to give a live concert in front of an audience made up of pirates, marines and all kinds of fans. The film will also delve into the childhood of Luffy, the undisputed protagonist of One Piece, and will recover one of his most iconic characters, Shanks.

In this sense, the director, Goro Taniguchi, explains during an interview with La Vanguardia that “distant events are narrated that allow the viewer to fully understand the lives of the characters. You could say that, in a way, it is a kind of continuation of the first episode. Precisely for this reason, it is easy for all those who do not know the One Piece universe well, to get hooked on the film and enjoy it.

Taniguchi also recalls that music “is a fundamental pillar of the film. In Uta's voice lies its power. The Japanese singer Ado has been responsible for the melodies that appear throughout the footage, which, in the words of the filmmaker, "has been a true luxury and pleasure." In Spanish and Catalan, the artist Miree has done the same.

Although 25 years have passed, Luffy is still liked as the first day. But he is not the only one. One of the main attractions of One Piece is Eiichiro Oda's ability to constantly create characters of great interest. Figures such as Whitebeard, Trafalagar Law or now Uta have been an absolute success without becoming the true protagonists of the work. "This, logically, means that there is always a character to satisfy a particular fan," remarks Kochi-san, from Toei Animation, the studio behind the successful manga, who believes that this may be one of the reasons why the age range of the public is so varied.

Another reason is, in his opinion, “being constantly creating powerful and fun content around this work. And it is that, beyond the series and the movies, there is a team that is constantly involved in making it a reality that One Piece is a success worldwide, whether through merchandising, new products or advertising.
