The opposition warns Minister Elena that her credit is at the limit due to the management of the Mossos

The opposition groups as a whole have charged harshly against the "excuses" that in their opinion the Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena, dispenses to justify the dismissal of the chief commissioner, Josep Maria Estela. After listening to the explanations of the person in charge of the Government in the Interior commission in the Parlament, all the parties except ERC have agreed to disapprove Elena's management, who has presented the same arguments that she gave last week before the microphones of RAC1, two days after the crisis broke out.

PSC and En Comú Podem have warned Elena that she is getting closer to disapproval and facing the "last chance" to give stability to the body, and Junts has reminded her that she can no longer count on their complicity as a result of the breakup of the Government.

Elena has argued that Estela's dismissal was "necessary" in order to carry out the "transformations" of feminization and modernization that she wants to carry out in the Catalan police. In the field of modernization, she has indicated her desire to create a "choral direction" at the head of the body, with Commissioner Sallent, Mayor Rosa Bosch and Inspector Montserrat Escudé. And as for feminization, she has explained that the "differences" with the former head of the Mossos were based on the "rhythm" of her implantation.

Like last week, Elena has highlighted her competence to appoint commissioners and has denied that this involves political interference, but rather a decision that corresponds to him as minister. And she has insisted that she is not going to allow police interference in political decisions (and vice versa), and that "the bodies must have political orientation", a statement that has generated controversy among parliamentary groups.

Elena's arguments have not convinced the opposition. From the PSC-Units, the spokesman for the Interior, Ramon Espadaler, has been especially harsh with the minister, whom he has warned that "the more he talks, the closer he is to disapproval." Espadaler has reproached Elena that with him at the head of the Department, the Mossos body is "less cohesive, less respected, more politicized, works with less stability and is weaker than a year ago", therefore, "it is difficult spoil more things in less time”, he accused.

For the PSC-Units deputy, it is "clear" that with his management, "he has not given a political orientation" to the body with the changes in the leadership, but "has politicized it" because "he wants a body and a submissive prefecture , tell him amen”. And he has ensured that the argument of feminization "does not slip", in the same way that the security model "is not done by putting in and removing police officers, but is set in the Security Plan of Catalonia, which is expired since 2019 ”, he has reminded him.

For his part, the deputy David Cid has also been very forceful with the minister because "he has made the wound in the Mossos even bigger." Cid has even accused him of being "burning the Mossos commanders", to the point that "it seems that ERC does not know how to govern either with Junts or alone".

After regretting that Elena has not made "not one self-criticism" in the face of the "pitched battle" generated in the police leadership, she has warned him that "you are at the last chance to stabilize the body." And after demanding "solutions and stability", Cid has warned him that "he will not have another opportunity to resolve the open wound in the body of Mossos".

From Junts, the deputy Mercè Esteve has criticized the minister for not having had time to approve the Security Plan or to publish the latest reports of the ministry in this matter during all his time at the head of the ministry. Esteve has reminded her of the legal requirement to approve the plan because "we have the right to know where they want to take this structure, especially with a government that is alone and does not have the support of the Chamber", she recalled.
