The opposition manages to get Congress to ask to continue with nuclear and thermal power plants

Thanks to the abstention of United We Can, the opposition has managed to get Congress to demand the extension of the useful life of nuclear power plants, reverse the closure of thermal power plants and the construction of a temporary storage facility for spent nuclear fuel in Villar de Cañas ( Basin).

This measure is part of a proposed resolution of the Asturias Forum agreed with Vox that was approved this Thursday during the Debate on the state of the nation.

The proposal has been approved with the votes of the PP, Vox, Ciudadanos, Teruel Exists and Foro Asturias. The PSOE, Esquerra Republicana, EH-Bildu, Junts, the PDeCAT, Más País-Equo, the CUP, the Canarian Coalition and the BNG have voted against, while United We Can, the PNV and the PRC have abstained.

In addition to the measures mentioned, the approved text also calls for urgently lowering energy costs for industry, approving a State Pact for Industry to reach a 20% contribution to GDP and supporting support measures in favor of the agri-food industry.

On the other hand, the opposition has also defeated the Government to demand more infrastructure for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and accelerate energy interconnections between Spain and France.

In this way, it has approved, with the vote against the PSOE and United We Can, a proposed resolution of the PNV in the framework of the Debate on the state of the nation, with the support of the PP, Vox, Ciudadanos, PDeCAT and Junts. ERC, BNG, Teruel Exists and the PRC have abstained, while EH-Bildu, Más País-Equo, the CUP, Compromís and Foro Asturias have voted against.

Specifically, the text approved by Congress requires the Government to authorize a second loading area in the Port of Bilbao in view of the growth in demand for LNG supplied through tankers, not only due to the war in Ukraine but also due to the increase in demand for its use as fuel for road vehicles and ships.

Likewise, it also calls for speeding up the interconnections between Spain and France to improve the interconnection of the Iberian Peninsula with the rest of the European Union.
