The new PP government in Castelldefels raises taxes

The party that champions lowering taxes is forced to do the opposite in Castelldefels. This Tuesday, the new municipal government led by the PP in coalition with the local Som party announced an increase in the IBI and other taxes such as garbage collection in view of next year's ordinances. “Even if we don't like it, we must ask for a collective effort,” said the mayor, the popular Manu Reyes.

According to the mayor, the City Council lives in a “complicated economic context.” The increase in taxes will not be the only measure. For example, subsidies to political parties are also reduced by 20% after another 8% reduction at the beginning of the mandate and there will be 42% fewer positions of trust.

Reyes reported that last year, before he regained the mayor's office, the City Council extended the accounts for 2022, although several budget modifications were made. But for next year, situations such as “the increase in fuel prices and the revaluation of salaries” must be faced. Furthermore, the modification of capital gains regulations means that 40% less is collected. The mayor summarized that the economic situation of the City Council is 77 million euros in income and 89 million in expenses.

With the increase in the IBI, which is the most important tax managed by city councils, they hope to raise an extra two million euros. Your tax rate will go from 0.425 to 0.462, which is almost 9% more. At the same time, bonuses will increase and a new rule will increase the IBI of empty homes by 50% during the first two years and by 100% from the third.
