The residents of the Arganzuela district of Madrid, who usually go to the facilities of the Peñuelas Municipal Sports Center, are going to have to look for an alternative this summer because the pools of this sports center are going to be closed, as eldiario.es announced yesterday.
"The City Council is finishing drafting the project for the comprehensive reform that it is going to undertake in the summer pools of the Peñuelas Municipal Sports Center, in Arganzuela," municipal sources tell La Vanguardia.
The work will consist of a comprehensive renovation of the pool vessels and all the facilities. This implies, the same sources add, that "the pools will remain closed all summer."
Last year, 585 tickets were put on sale every day, but they quickly sold out due to the high demand for these facilities. The Peñuelas sports center is located in the central part towards the south of the capital and that is why many residents from the center of the capital, whose properties do not have their own pool, and from the district of Arganzuela come.
"The City Council is aware of the inconvenience that this may cause, but the objective is to provide users with optimal service and safe facilities, for which it is necessary to carry out these works," the same sources point out.
The decision on the work has been agreed between the district, the Delegated Sports Area and the Works and Equipment Area. "In any case, due to its magnitude, it is an intervention that necessarily requires the closure of the facilities for a season, either this one, as it will be, or the next, if the renovation is postponed to the end of this season." , points out the official spokesperson.
As for the budget for the works, it has not yet been finalized, but this year's budget already included an item of 2.1 million for the renovation of the pools of said pools.
