Last August, the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested two men for the murder of a man in France that occurred 20 years ago. With the Special Intervention Group, those accused of committing the crime, aged 51 and 39, were arrested in Segur de Calafell and Prat de Llobregat. After being brought to justice, they were extradited to the neighboring country.
The events occurred in 2003, when those investigated, linked to the prostitution and pimping business, murdered a man of French nationality because he wanted to remove one of the sex workers from the world of prostitution. For these events, in 2011, a French court sentenced them to 30 and 26 years in prison.
Those investigated, uncle and nephew, had a history of violent acts and took many security measures to avoid being identified. During the arrest, the vehicle with which the body of the French citizen was transported 20 years ago to a mountainous area near the French town of Grondeville, Nancy (in the Lorraine region), where the body was abandoned was also recovered. As a result of these events, they decided to flee France when they were identified.
In 2011 they were convicted of the murder and two European arrest warrants were issued. The agents of the Central Homicide Unit obtained the real identity of both investigated in the framework of another investigation where there were other people investigated. The DIC, in the usual collaboration it maintains with police from other countries, carried out exchanges of information with Romanian, Belgian, French and Croatian authorities, since they identified themselves with Croatian documentation and did not have any alert or active arrest warrant. .
The Romanian authorities informed the Mossos that one of them had a record of reckless homicide in 1995. On the other hand, the Belgian authorities reported that the same person had a record of aggravated robberies in 2001. Finally, the French authorities reported the current requirement for murder and kidnapping in 2003 in Nancy, for which they have now been arrested.
The investigators finally managed to link the two investigated with the murder in France and verified that the international arrest warrant was still in force. As an anecdotal fact, both reported each other to the Mossos for an alleged debt in 2010.
