"The Mafia sits at the table", the sponsorship of Casademont Zaragoza that outrages Italy

Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldo, the Italian ambassador in Madrid, has sent a very critical letter to Reynaldo Benito, president of Casademont Zaragoza, reproaching him for a collaboration agreement with the restaurant company "The Mafia sits at the table", signed on the 23rd of February.

Grimaldi, who has worked in diplomatic tasks in Tripoli, Doha or Beirut before landing in Madrid, reproaches the Maño team, which is a member of the Endesa League, for wearing this motto and reminds him in his writing that the mafia "represents a criminal phenomenon". .

The Italian ambassador expands when it comes to putting the mafia in context: "Many efforts and considerable resources are dedicated to the fight against it, not only by the Italian government, but also at the European Union level, the crime being organized a serious threat to security, the legal economy and coexistence".

The Italian indignation with the aforementioned sponsorship is enormous and the reasons are widely explained in the letter sent by Grimaldi, and made public: "The Court of the European Union has addressed the issue of the registration of 'The Mafia sits at the Table' and both organizations have highlighted how this mark is contrary to public order and offensive, not only for the victims of this criminal organization and their families, but also for any person who, in the territory of the Union, is in front of said mark and has thresholds means of sensitivity and tolerance".

In Grimaldi's letter, he laments that "associating the Mafia with concepts of cordiality and relaxation, based on the fact that the Mafia would 'sit at the table' to share a meal, contributes to the trivialization of illegal activities and misdeeds committed by that organisation, which go against - I would like to stress - the fundamental values of the European Union".
