The lunar pendant of the Medes Islands

I have captured this series of photographs of the moon on the Medes Islands for The Readers' Photos of La Vanguardia. In the perspective from the beach of L'Estartit you can see how our natural satellite seems to rest on the tip of the archipelago, as if it were an earring.

The Medes Islands are an emblematic archipelago in the Mediterranean, on the Costa Brava, made up of seven small islands and some islets.

They are declared a Specially Protected Area of importance for the Mediterranean. It is one of the most important and largest maritime reserves in Catalonia.

These wild islands, located just 900 meters from the coast of L'Estartit and protected for more than 20 years, are a true paradise for scuba diving or boat trips.

They had formerly been the preferred hiding place for pirates and, later, they were used by the Army as a surveillance place. They were inhabited until 1934, but currently the only construction is the Meda Gran lighthouse.

Its main attraction lies in the richness and diversity of the marine and terrestrial fauna and flora that it houses.
