The lifeguards of Barcelona call off the strike

The lifeguards of the beaches of Barcelona have decided in an assembly this Saturday night to accept the agreement reached by the representatives of the workers and the concessionary company of the lifeguard service after several hours of meetings. The workers began a strike this Saturday that, according to the CGT union, present in the negotiations, will be called off this Sunday after the employees' endorsement of the agreement.

The collective demanded labor improvements and an increase in the workforce to guarantee the quality of the service and, according to the union, the company has promised to hire more personnel "urgently" in order to cover shifts and guarantee breaks. It has also agreed to schedule medical and dermatological check-ups, to deliver paper payslips to the workers before the 5th of each month, to seek a rotation system that ensures both the rest of the lifeguards and surveillance on the beach, that it will not be able to fall more than six hours on a vigilante.

The aforementioned union sources have also explained that on Monday they will meet with the company and the Barcelona City Council to draw up the social agreements they have reached and put an end to the labor dispute. In addition, the consistory has proposed to meet biweekly to work on the technical fold of agreements.

Other concessionaire commitments include guaranteeing the carving and patronage of women's uniforms, responding to worker communications and working on a protocol for exceptional cases of personnel deficit.
