The life balance teachings of trees

Nature is like the page of an open book that offers us its knowledge. At a time when human beings go out of their way to achieve a vital balance, his teachings can be useful to us.

This series of photographs in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia portrays minimalist details of pruning in the Tarròs fields, in the Urgell region.

The pruning of fruit trees in the lands of Lleida is done with meticulous harmony to obtain good fruits. The objective is to obtain quality, so it is a necessary process to avoid having too many small fruits. Now, we must find the right balance between growth and fruiting, because if we prune excessively, fruit production may be zero.

If we look, for example, at the Taoist concepts of yin and yang we will see that they are used to represent the two fundamental opposite and complementary, but interconnected, forces found in all things.

Yin would be the feminine principle, the earth, darkness, passivity and absorption. Yang would be the masculine principle, heaven, light, activity and penetration.

Observing the growth processes of trees can help us reflect on the meaning of life, deeply mixed with philosophical and religious conceptions of existence, consciousness and happiness.
