The leader of the 'Bustamante Clan', a drug network from Rota that had assault rifles, was sent to prison

Dismantled, this is how the drug network known as 'El Clan de Bustamante' has remained after the agents of the National Police have arrested and brought its leader to justice.

The leader, arrested in Rota (Cádiz), remained unknown since an operation against the organization began in 2022, at which time 16 arrests were carried out. It was in this raid that the agents were shot at when they were going to search 'the daycare' where they had the drugs in Lebrija, Seville. A year later, the agents dealt a second blow, arresting 9 more members of the clan, however it has now been considered deactivated.

The network had been dismantled with two previous operations that led to the seizure of 8,500 kilos of hashish and the imprisonment of fourteen of its members.

In a first operation carried out on October 20, 2022, 16 members of the clan were arrested and 4,500 kilograms of hashish that they had hidden in an industrial warehouse in Lebrija (Seville) were seized. On this occasion, the agents were involved in a shootout as they were shot by members of the organization who were guarding the drugs, as reported today by the Police.

The investigations continued and investigators were able to verify that the criminal network continued to operate, with more security measures. To act, the Police, together with Customs Surveillance agents, designed a complex operation that was carried out on November 8 to search the property they used as a drug warehouse.

Given its dangerous nature, the operation included agents from the Special Operational Security Groups of the National Police (GOES).

During the search, nine other members of the criminal structure were arrested and 4,000 kilos of hashish that they intended to distribute to the different buyers of the merchandise were seized.

Three assault rifles with ammunition and the vehicles they used to load the drugs, SUVs with their trailers, were also seized. After being brought to justice, the judicial authority decreed provisional detention for the nine arrested persons detained in the second phase.

The leader of the network, whose whereabouts are unknown, has now been arrested, with which the Police consider that the Bustamente clan has been dismantled.
