The president of Congress, Francina Armengol, has formally communicated the King's decision that entrusts the current acting president, Pedro Sánchez, with a second attempt to establish the Government.
The King now trusts the constitution of the new Executive after the failure of the attempted investiture of Alberto Núñez Feijóo confirmed this past week in Congress. However, Sánchez is not assured of his investiture for now and, in fact, today he only has the explicit support of his parliamentary group and the expectation of reaching agreements until he surpasses the absolute majority.
After receiving Pedro Sánchez, the King concluded the round of contacts with a meeting with the leader of the Popular Party. After the meeting, Francina Armengo went to the Zarzuela to receive the King's instructions.
Feijóo, at the end of his meeting with the King, expressed his absolute respect for Felipe VI's decision despite the fact that he considers that Pedro Sánchez's attempt to form the Government constitutes a mistake.
Armengol has specified that the date of the investiture is pending the conversation he has with the acting president and candidate. However, the key date is November 27, when, if there is no investiture, elections would be automatically called.
