The King stressed yesterday that logistics "in a context of trade opening and economic globalization" is essential "to increase competitiveness, while promoting greater sustainability and less environmental impact." He said so in the speech he gave at the Logistics Night, inside the SIL room, which opens its doors today and is organized by the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona.
The monarch pointed out that "the SIL is in line with the weight of logistics in the economy of our country." In the opinion of Felipe VI, "Spain is a logistics power of the first order, with a geostrategic situation that gives us a global dimension and allows us to cover much broader geographical connections." He also wanted to point out that "capillary logistics, that is, the final process of transportation and delivery, is evolving at a dizzying pace with the unstoppable rise of electronic commerce."
Felipe VI presided over the Logistics Night gala, held at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya (TNC), and presented recognition to those professionals in the sector who have made a decisive contribution to the SIL fair over the last 25 years. A total of 49 people received the recognition "for their career, work, dedication and connection to the sector and to the event, year after year," according to a statement from SIL. The monarch wanted to "highlight the work of the Barcelona Free Zone for its efforts during these 25 years so that Barcelona and Spain host one of the most important logistics fairs in the world".
Felipe VI was accompanied by the Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, the Government delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, the special State delegate to the Consorci de la Zona Franca and president of SIL, Pere Navarro, and the general director of the Consorci y from SIL, Blanca Sorigué, among other personalities. During his speech, Navarro pointed out that “SIL has opted for internationality, for serving as a point of union and meeting for all professionals. A place where we can see each other's faces and talk in person, with people from Latin America, the rest of Europe, the Mediterranean, Asia and even Oceania, from all over the world”.
For his part, Sorigué, who was one of the people recognized, addressed the public on behalf of the 49 winners, recalling that "SIL was born with a clear international vocation and the vision of bringing together the best talent in the field of logistics ”.
With nearly 800 representatives of the sector and institutions, the Logistics Night was the prelude to the SIL, which starts today. The opening ceremony will be chaired by the Minister of Transport. This year the event has the Basque Country as a guest community, with its own stand as a prominent exhibitor.
