The jury today decides the Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences 2022

The jury of the Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences 2022 will make public today at noon in Oviedo the decision of the award to which twenty-five candidates of sixteen nationalities are opting. The one for Social Sciences will be the third of the eight prizes to be awarded this year. So far, the award has been received by the singer Carmen Linares and the dancer and choreographer María Pagés (Arts), and the Polish journalist Adam Michnik (Communication and Humanities).

The Princess Award for Social Sciences is intended to distinguish creative and research work in history, law, linguistics, pedagogy, political science, psychology, sociology, ethics, philosophy, geography, economics , demography and anthropology, as well as the rest of the disciplines corresponding to each of these fields.

In 2021, the Social Sciences prize was awarded to the Indian economist Amartya Sen, known for his work on human development and economic well-being. In previous editions, Mary Beard, Joseph Pérez, Saskia Sassen, Martha C. Nussbaum, Tzvetan Todorov, Jürgen Habermas or Mary Robinson, among others, were also distinguished.

In its forty-second edition, 312 candidates from 60 nationalities have been nominated for the Princess of Asturias Awards and each award is endowed with a reproduction of a sculpture designed by Joan Miró, a diploma, a badge and fifty thousand euros.
