The judge asks to analyze whether the DNA on Helena Jubany's jersey could be a mixture of the two investigated

The first instance judge 2 of Sabadell does not give up. Although the latest DNA results have not been positive to advance the investigation into who killed the 27-year-old girl, Helena Jubany, in December 2021, the magistrate has ordered new proceedings to be carried out. It has accepted the requests of the victim's family and has ordered the National Police and the Forensic Institute of Santiago de Compostela to more exhaustively analyze the genetic remains found on the victim's sweater to determine if it could correspond to a mixture of DNA. of the two investigated, Santiago Laiglesia and Xavi Jiménez, both members of the Natura section of the Sabadell Excursionist Union to which Jubany belonged.

“The judge orders that “the most advanced methodology and techniques be applied to the samples obtained from Helena Jubany's jersey” to “uncover the broadest and most refined sequence of Y chromosome DNA markers possible.” Once the sample is obtained, the judge emphasizes, he asks that “it be contrasted with the unquestionable samples relating to the two investigated and report whether the genetic profiles of those investigated coincide or are discardable in relation to the contribution of genetic material of the mixture that appeared in the victim's sweater.” Furthermore, to be more rigorous, the magistrate requests that, to the extent possible, the percentage of coincidence of each investigator with respect to the jersey sample be indicated.

The victim's family had requested these tests after genetic reports indicated that there was DNA from Helena herself and “at least” one other person on the sweater. The tests had been carried out taking as a reference that the DNA mixture was from Jubany and another single donor whose results were not coincident. Some of the match indicators matched those of Jubany, others with those of the suspects, but there were others that did not match either of the two. For this reason, they asked the court, and it has been accepted, that the tests be carried out considering that the DNA mixture may contain profiles of at least three donors since Jubany's body could have been transported by several people.

In addition, the judge also orders the National Police to check if there are traces of DNA in the anonymous letters that the alleged murderers left at Helena Jubany's door along with some adulterated drinks – a juice and an horchata – and which were the prelude to the crime. . One of those investigated, Xavi Jiménez, is credited with making one of the anonymous ones.

Helena Jubany was 27 years old and working as a librarian in Sentmenat, when she was thrown off the roof of a property in Sabadell, in December 2021. The body was found in the building's light well. It is suspected that the victim was kidnapped for three days and then she was drugged and thrown into the void.
