The IVAM and the Spook nightclub combine techno music and powder to revisit the 'mascletà'

The Institut Valencià d'Art Modern (IVAM) and the Spook nightclub come together this Saturday, March 2, in a meeting that aims to review one of the most deeply rooted sound manifestations in popular territory: the mascletà. This sound meeting, which takes place from 2 p.m. to midnight, will feature a round table, specific productions and musical performances by sound artists Berta Cortina, Martí, Tusa Revendless and DJ Lucía Gea, among others.

'Gunpowder, body, sound. IVAM en Spook' is a project by Ricardo Ruíz that is part of IVAM's line of action around the city and popular manifestations such as the fallaes, highlighting artistic experimentation, in many cases collective. After the presentation of the exhibition on historical llibrets and the exhibition dedicated to Alfredo Ruiz, pioneer of experimental fallas, IVAM addresses another fundamental pillar in the world of festive culture such as the mascletá, establishing connections with other disciplines of sound art.

The event at Spook next Saturday is the first meeting of this project that will host the legendary Pinedo nightclub. Opened in 1984, Spook was one of the fundamental stops on the nightclub circuit of the so-called Destroy Route. Currently it is a reference for techno music programming, a genre with a long Valencian tradition in which, as in popular traca, rhythm and power predominate.

After a meal in the nightclub itself, the day begins with a round table in which Reyes Martí, reference pyrotechnics and owner of Martí de Borriana pyrotechnics, will participate; Mikel Pagola, promoter and critic of pyrotechnics, co-author of works such as 'The pyrotechnics in Valencia'; Nuria Martí, co-owner of the Nadal-Martí de l'Olleria pyrotechnics; Miguel Molina, artist and sound art researcher, professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Polytechnic University of Valencia and director of the thesis 'The firecracker: a musical instrument, by Toni Coín'; Iván Llopis, pianist and composer, sound artistic director, co-founder of Banjo Soundscapes and Edu Comelles, sound artist and cultural manager.

Next, it will be the turn of the musical productions of Finalversion3, resident DJ of Spook, techno music producer, co-director of Club Gordo and Atisbo, contemporary techno DJ, researcher of the SONS collective.

Starting at 7 p.m. you can enjoy performances by Berta Cortina, an experimental sound artist who works with modular; Martí, sound artist and co-director at Nvcli; Tusa Revendless, a duo formed by a sound artist who works on electronic synthesis and DIY instruments and a composer and music producer focused on the creation of textures and harmonies and Lucía Gea, Spook's first female resident DJ and music producer.

The Valencian museum makes buses available to attendees that will leave for the Spook nightclub at 2:00 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. The lunch menu includes paella and a drink (registration is required through the IVAM website to reserve transportation and food). The day's activities are free and end at midnight.
