The house where Truman Capote wrote 'In Cold Blood' hosts a writers' residence

The house on the Costa Brava in which Truman Capote wrote the novel 'In Cold Blood' now hosts a writers' residence through which the Argentine Mariana Enríquez, the Catalan Irene Pujadas and Kae Tempest, from the United Kingdom, are scheduled to visit, among others. other notable authors.

The Fundació Finestres is behind this initiative, which was presented this week, but which has already welcomed authors such as Irene Solà, Clyo Mendoza, Belén López Peiró, Sabina Urraca, Pol Guasch and Leila Guerriero in the testing phase.

Those responsible for the Finestres Residence, located in Palamós (Girona) in a building built by the Russian Nicolai Woevodsky and the British Dorothy Webster, the couple who also designed the nearby Cap Roig space, have explained that the objective is to offer "a space ideal for the cultivation of imagination, thought and cultural exchange".

The authors who come to this house located on a cliff above the sea will be authors chosen by the Finestres team, writers who are part of the Finestres Awards and Scholarship programs and applicants who present a book project.

The residency will last one month and its managers have defined it as "a territory of calm and meditation that welcomes writers from all over the world so that they can devote themselves to their art in contact with Mediterranean nature."

The literary residency is not the only project that the Barcelona bookstore and foundation have in Palamós. Finestres already announced that it would open an establishment on the Costa Brava in mid-2024, and today it has given more details of the project.

The new bookstore will be a reality between spring and summer and will occupy the place left behind by La Gavina, located on Calle Major in Palamós.

The director of the Finestres bookstores, Àurea Perelló, explains that they have been working "from minute zero" so that the new establishment is related to the literary residency (for example, hosting readings by the authors). The bookstore will have approximately 60 square meters spread over two of the four floors of the property, and although it will try to replicate the philosophy of Barcelona - where silence prevails to cover the literary experience - Perelló also specifies that "it will adapt to the needs" of Palamós.

"We will not replicate exactly what we have in Barcelona, where the fabric of bookstores is diverse; in the case of Palamós, where for example there is a need for school books, we will adapt," says Perelló. Also taking into account that the town is a tourist municipality.
