The heirs of ICV gain weight in the amalgamation of the commons and in Sumar

In the hard core of the leader of Sumar Yolanda Díaz, not only does Catalan speak, but those who speak it exert great influence and share, in most cases, the roots of the extinct Iniciativa per Catalunya Verds (ICV). In addition, the ecosocialist formation, heir to the historic PSUC that had to be liquidated in 2019 due to its massive debts and refounded the following year, has gone from lamenting the little weight with which they began their alliance with those of Ada Colau, back in 2017, to to practically dominate the conglomerate of the left just when the decline of the mayoress looms.

Although the commons assure that in organic decisions there is no room to negotiate between autonomous sensitivities and therefore "the logic of party quotas does not operate", the truth is that since ICV undertook its refoundation under the name of Esquerra Verda (EV) In March 2021, people from their ranks have been gaining influence. The latest example is the deputy Aina Vidal, designated head of the list by Barcelona for the general elections on 23-J to replace Jaume Asens. And along with Vidal, the choice of Júlia Boada, a member of the EV management, to lead the list for Girona is also striking.

The founding manifesto of the formation indicates that "one" of its main priorities is "the strengthening of the project of Catalunya en Comú, as well as the candidacies and institutional groups of En Comú Podem", where the defeat of Colau in the municipal elections of the 28-M has had a clear influence.

Asens is Colau's most trusted, but due to his pro-independence profile he had the reluctance of the people of ICV and Podem Catalunya when he was elected headliner in 2019, to the point of achieving more blank votes than in favor in the assembly that enlightened him because the regulation did not allow voting against. On the other hand, Vidal, affiliated with EV, will be accompanied on the list by another comrade in the ranks, the coordinator of the commons Candela López, but also by people close to Colau, such as Gerardo Pisarello and Gala Pin.

The discussion between one and the other for the future of the Barcelona mayor's office was reproduced on Saturday at the joint headquarters on Marina street in Barcelona, where 24 hours before the dispute that ended with Asens saying goodbye to politics was fought.

Sources from the ICV heir formation point out that among the formations integrated in the commons "quotas of power or representation are not negotiated", and that the election of Aina Vidal is "cyclical", faced with the dilemma of choosing "someone new" or “a labor profile”. Voluntary or not, the truth is that members of EV are gaining weight in the commons just as the post-Colau era looms, and that they already have weighty members around Yolanda Díaz.

The Sumar leader has surrounded herself with leaders of the ecosocialist formation such as Josep Vendrell, her current chief of staff, or the MEP Ernest Urtasun. In addition, among the 35 sectoral coordinators that the presidential candidate chose to feed her candidacy with content, there were quite a few names from the orbit of the former ICV, such as the professor of anthropology Dolors Comas or the architect and urban planner Zaida Muxí
