The harsh images of cobalt mining in the Congo

Cobalt extraction in Congo mining has been written on numerous occasions. The images are truly chilling when you see hundreds of Congolese crowded together in the same area extracting the precious material for the electronics industry with their own hands.

The conditions to which these people are subjected are inhumane; multiple journalistic works have collected very harsh scenes denouncing the use of children manipulating the extracted material and transporting buckets.

It is quantified that the Congo supplies more than 60% of the cobalt produced in the world. Nowadays it is an essential element for the manufacture of electronic devices and appliances such as mobile phones, computers or batteries for electric cars.
