The halo over Montserrat captured from Collbaix

I share in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia this perspective of the mountain of Montserrat captured from Collbaix, in Bages, at the moment when a solar halo can be seen.

The Collbaix is a peak of 543 meters, located in Sant Joan de Vilatorrada. It is the highest peak around Manresa, west of Pla de Bages, with an excellent observation point, as can be seen in this snapshot.

The mountain is located between the streams of Rajadell and Fonollosa. The southern slope belongs to Manresa, the east to Sant Joan de Vilatorrada. Rajadell has the area of Punta Sabata and Fonollosa with most of the top, the west and the shady side.

The solar halo forms around the sun, presenting an iridescent ring on its outer circumference, due to ice crystals when there are high clouds.

The halo is caused by ice particles suspended in the troposphere that refract light, generating a spectrum of colors around the sun.
