The Government prepares a decree law that rejects the percentages of use of Spanish in school

One of the formulas with which ERC wants to tie the consensus with Junts to deal with the ruling of the TSJC that obliges Catalan schools to teach 25% of classes in Spanish is the approval of a decree law of the Government that in its articles specify that percentages, proportions or other numerical parameters are not allowed in the teaching and use of the two languages, as sources close to the negotiations have explained to La Vanguardia.

In addition, the decree law would also incorporate that the linguistic projects be validated by the Department of Education, with which the ministry would assume responsibility for the legality of the linguistic projects of each center so that the management teams of the schools in court. This is essentially the main claim of Junts, which last week definitively opted out of the agreement with ERC, PSC and the commons, to reform the language policy law.

The decree, according to the same sources, would also include an additional provision that would grant the Department of Education the power to advise the centers in the preparation, approval and review of language projects.

This decree is one of the formulas under study, but yesterday, Tuesday, the ERC demanded more time from socialists and common people to convince those of Carles Puigdemont and also proposed a new ad hoc law to prevent the ruling of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia from being imposed. (TSJC). The third stop, which runs in parallel, would be the aforementioned modification of the Language Policy Law, for which there is a majority with ERC, PSC and common, in the terms agreed so far.

However, if the legislative texts explicitly include the rejection of the percentages of use of each language, it would be more than likely that the socialists would be the ones to break away from the linguistic consensus.

Precisely this morning, the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, has assured that in defense of the Catalan language "there are no excuses" and has committed to achieving the widest possible consensus to defend language immersion in schools.

In an interview in Ser Catalunya, the president insisted that his goal is for "everyone to participate" in this legislative text in defense of Catalan and for the four parliamentary groups to continue supporting its approval.

Aragonès has defended that the important thing is to regulate and provide guarantees so that there is no "judicial interference" in the work of teachers, and has asked to focus on the final result and not so much the negotiations between political groups.
