The Government points to a downward revision of growth due to uncertainty

The Government could revise down the economic growth forecast. This has been pointed out by the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, this Thursday. The person in charge of fiscal policy has ruled out a recession, but she has indicated that the figures for the macro table of the general budget bill that are under negotiation could undergo changes to reduce them.

The decision to lower the growth forecast depends on Economy. But Montero has argued that "there is no data" to predict a recession in Spain, whose economy maintains a "robust" growth this year. The minister has assured that this forecast is around 4% (the official forecast is 4.3%) and around 2% in 2023 (2.7% in the latest macroeconomic table).

The Government, therefore, finalizes the decision on whether to reduce these data in line with the forecasts of international organizations. The European Commission, for example, foresees an improvement in the Spanish economy of 2.1%, below the latest government estimates dating from July.

The update of the forecasts is scheduled for the end of September or the beginning of October. It will incorporate the changes that have occurred since July, including the greater problems of Russian gas supply to Europe and the tightening of monetary policy by the European Central Bank.

"We are on alert, very attentive," the minister assured in an interview on La Sexta, who has been especially concerned about the situation in countries like Germany, more dependent on Russian gas than Spain.
