MADRID, 16 (SERVIMEDIA)

The Government gave the green light this Tuesday to the declassification of documents related to the investigation carried out in 2020 by the National Intelligence Center (CNI) with the 'Pegasus' system on Pere Aragonès, when he was vice president of the Generalitat.

This was confirmed by the spokesperson and Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría, in the press conference after the Council of Ministers, in which she explained that the Government, "at the request of a judge, is carrying out a partial declassification for this specific lawsuit, and I will also tell you that this declassification in no way affects national security.

The former director of the National Intelligence Center (CNI) Paz Esteban will testify on January 26 before the head of the Court of Instruction number 29 of Barcelona, Santiago García, who in his order from mid-October cited her as a defendant and the Catalan president as a defendant. of injured. In addition, she requested documentation from the CNI; to the Israeli company NSO Group, which manufactures and sells the 'Pegasus' spyware; and to the Supreme Court (TS) to clarify whether it authorized the espionage.

VARIOUS COURTS

The investigation into the alleged interference in the mobile devices of Catalan independence leaders is being carried out by several courts, including this one in Barcelona, the first to cite a person in charge of the National Intelligence Center as being investigated.

This specific case is being studied in a Catalan court because it was Aragonès himself who filed a complaint for having been allegedly spied on by the CNI, without it being clear at the moment whether these surveillances had judicial authorization.

The Government of Pedro Sánchez dismissed Paz Esteban in May of last year following the demands made by ERC to continue to have its support. The former director of the CNI appeared before the official secrets commission of Congress before her replacement, where she revealed that she ordered wiretapping of 18 independentists by court order. Among the people monitored was the president of the Generalitat.
