The Government approves the tender for the works to repair the water leak in Badalona

The Government of the Generalitat has approved the agreement for the execution of the work of doubling the pipe that connects the Ter potabilizadora, located in Cardedeu (Vallès Oriental), with the Estación Distribuidora de la Trinitat, in Barcelona. The current pipeline, a 3 meter diameter tunnel that entered service in 1966, has leaks in different sections, which mainly affect the municipalities of Badalona and Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelonès North).

The repair of this pipeline is subject to the construction of its extension, which must function as an alternative to guarantee the water supply to the population. The works will be financed by the Ter-Llobregat Water Supply Authority (ATL) and will be executed by Infraestructures.cat, with a planned investment of 45.4 million euros.

As detailed by the executive, the forecast is that the tender notice will be published this week and that work can begin in September. The planned execution period is two years and, once the works are completed, at the end of 2026, and the alternative pipeline is put into service, it will be assessed what actions must be carried out to repair the old pipeline and put an end to the losses.

Currently, the pipeline loses 225,000 liters of water per day, 185,000 of them in the municipality of Badalona.
