The Generalitat cares for 1,145 victims of sexual assault in 5 years, more than a third minors

The Minister of Justice, Interior and Public Administration, Gabriela Bravo, yesterday took stock of the first five years of operation of the Network of Assistance Offices for Victims of Crime (OAVD). A balance that denotes, in this week of feminist vindication of 8M, the path that still remains to be traveled in terms of equality.

The data presented by the Ministry of Justice underline that, in this five-year period, the Generalitat network, inaugurated in 2018, has served 89,430 people, of which 64,682 have had a comprehensive aid file opened.

The document reveals that 53% of the 64,682 people for whom an aid file was opened "were women victims of gender violence." Some data that, according to the minister, show that "the Valencian Community is a benchmark in the fight against gender violence and in the protection of victims"

The figures do not end there. The report indicates that, by age, the most common profile of victims of gender violence corresponds to a woman between 31 and 40 years of age, followed by the segment between 18 and 25, while the 686 victims who were minors stand out. age. For a few years it has been detected that the victims of this type of sexist violence are increasingly younger. And that, they explain from the Generalitat, that this data is limited to the people that the Generalitat attends to offer them some type of help, accompaniment or psychological resource; For this reason, the figures of complaints in the courts are presumed to be much higher.

To all this, we must add another worrying fact. In the OAVDs, a total of 1,145 victims of sexual assaults have also been treated in these five years, of which more than a third were under 18 years of age and another 251 were between 18 and 25. This means that 90% of the victims of sexual violence attended were women and that 60% of the victims were under 25 years of age.

In another order of things, the vice president and councilor for Equality and Inclusive Policies, Aitana Mas, assured yesterday that the future Valencian Equality Law "will contemplate public policies that promote conciliation and also protect the new masculinities."

After meeting with various entities and associations in the social field to share the content of the future regulations, Mas promised that it will be the first law that the Consell will approve in the next legislature. Along these lines, the leader of Compromós highlighted the importance of "breaking the glass ceilings, but also combating the clay floors where women of all kinds are found".
