The future vice-president of the Valencian Government, Vicente Barrera (Vox), who will also hold the portfolio and the competences of Culture, has applauded on social networks the decision of his party partner in Burriana (Castellón) to cancel the City Council's subscription to the magazines Camacuc, Cavall Fort, El Temps, Enderrock and National Language.
The mayor of Culture of the town, Jesús Albiol justified the decision with the argument that the consistory will not continue "promoting Catalan separatism with the money of the Burrianenses. We are not second-rate Catalans, we are first-rate Valencians and Spaniards."
The measure of this City Council governed by PP and Vox has been well received by the future Minister of Culture and number two of the Executive of Carlos Mazón, who will be invested today as president of all Valencians. On his Twitter account, Barrera has written: "Bravo Jesús. Our Valencian and Spanish identity stands [sic]", with the misspelling included.
After Barrera's support for the measure, the big question is whether this type of measure will be taken by the Department of Culture which, let us remember, as a result of the pact reached by the PP with Vox, will fall on more than the far right.
As this newspaper explained, the decision of the Castellón town hall has had diverse reactions on the networks, including those of the publications themselves, such as that of Cavall Fort (aimed at children and young people), which says that it is "sad and worrying, but we will find ways to reach children so that they can continue reading and having fun in Catalan".
