The harvest at Viña de Sabater in Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelonès Nord), an experimental vineyard, has closed this year with 1,408 kg of grapes collected. Like last year, the harvest was carried out by variety, to adapt to the different degrees of ripeness of the grapes. The people in charge of the collection have been the students of the Casa d'Oficis, a program managed by the City Council, through Grameimpuls.
Of the 1,408 kg collected, 181 kg correspond to the garrut variety; 151 kg in red garnacha; 780 kg in white raisin and 296 kg in white picapoll. As usual, the wine production will take place in the Can Roda winery (Martorelles). The wine from the Viña de Sabater is not marketed and serves as teaching material for the students of the Restoration School (ERESC).
The added value of this project is its educational and social aspect. And the maintenance of the vines is carried out within the framework of the Casa d'Oficis, a training program aimed at young people from Santa Coloma between 16 and 29 years old. The students, supervised by teaching staff from the municipal company, are in charge of taking care of the vineyard, which each year culminates with the harvesting of the grapes. This is the seventh harvest since the wine recovery project began in the city.
La Viña de Sabater has been part of the DO Alella for three years. The European Union approved the incorporation of Santa Coloma and its vineyard to this geographical area. The inclusion of Santa Coloma in the Alella DO allows wine tourism to be promoted, promote knowledge of the natural environment and disseminate the experimental project and recovery of the vineyard.
La Viña de Sabater is registered in the wine registry of Catalonia and has the support, advice and monitoring of the Institut Català de la Vinya i el Vi. Traditional and organic farming is practiced on all plots.
