This rocky mountain is traditionally considered the most important and significant in Catalonia. With a maximum height of 1236 meters at the peak of Sant Jeroni, it rises abruptly to the west of the Llobregat river.
Since, according to legend, the image of the virgin was found in the Santa Cova, Montserrat has been a place strongly linked to spirituality.
Although this characteristic culminates with the location of the Monserrat monastery almost at its summit, as we see in the photograph, the mountain is also home to small churches and hermitages such as, for example, those of Santa Cecilia, Sant Benet, Sant Joan or Sant Jeroni.
The Virgin, popularly known as La Moreneta for her dark color and for being the patron saint of Catalonia, is a Romanesque wooden carving dating from the end of the 12th century.
