The Electoral Board warns Aragonès for his 'clarity agreement', although without sanctioning him

The Central Electoral Board (JEC) has recriminated this Wednesday the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, his press conference last week to announce the creation of an Academic Council that will prepare a proposal for a clear agreement for a future referendum.

The resolution of the JEC, collected by the Efe agency, derives from a complaint filed by Ciudadanos, which accused Aragonès of having infringed the electoral law by announcing his proposal from the Palau de la Generalitat and asked that a disciplinary file be opened for him. .

The JEC has partially upheld the Citizens' complaint, considering that Aragonès' statements at the press conference "violated the prohibition" established in article 50.2 of the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime (LOREG), which vetoes, during the electoral period , any act organized or financed by the public authorities that uses images or expressions similar to those used in their campaigns by any of the parties contesting the elections. However, it considers that "the initiation of disciplinary proceedings is not appropriate."

On the other hand, the Lleida Regional Electoral Board has ordered the mayor of Lleida, Miquel Pueyo (ERC), to remove the pro-independence symbols on the facade of the council following the complaint by the candidate for Valents, Ángeles Ribes.

The Electoral Board has considered valid Valents' complaint about the banner that calls for "freedom" for "political prisoners and exiles" and on which a yellow ribbon, a symbol of independence, also appears.

The Zone Electoral Board has ordered the mayor to remove the banners within a maximum period of 24 hours, warning him that, in case of non-compliance, he could be accused of disobedience to authority.

The Valents candidate for Lleida, Ángeles Ribes, has expressed her satisfaction with the Electoral Board's decision and stated that "the City Council must represent all citizens equally, regardless of their political ideology.
