The detection of suicidal behavior grows by 40% in Girona compared to 2019

The detection of suicidal behavior has grown by 40% in the regions of Girona, comparing the 257 activations of the Suicide Risk Code (CRS) last year, with the 184 registered in 2019. On average, this code has been activated at a rate of 3 .3 cases per 10,000 inhabitants.

With the aim of continuing to increase the detection of these behaviors to prevent them, Salut presented this Thursday in Salt (Gironès) the campaign 'Don't let him fall into the pit of suicide'.

The action consists of the temporary installation of some vinyls, which symbolize a well and remind us of the importance of calling 061 if this behavior is detected in someone in the environment. 17 municipalities participate in the Girona health region.

Of the 257 cases of CRS that occurred last year in the regions of Girona, 77% agreed to make at least one follow-up visit to the reference mental health center. Compared to 2022, the figure has also increased by 23%, having been activated on 209 occasions. The data includes the territories of the mental health network of the Institut d'Assistència Sanitària.

The balance was made public this Thursday morning during the presentation of the suicide prevention campaign of the Health Department in the Girona Health Region and which focuses on the prevention and detection capacity of the environment.

The action consists of the temporary installation of vinyl that shows a black dot and is part of the campaign 'Don't let him fall into the suicide pit'.

In the Girona Health Region it has spread to 17 cities - regional capitals or with around 20,000 inhabitants - with a total of 19 vinyls; being the Region with the most adhered points (20% of the vinyl installed in all of Catalonia.

The campaign in the Girona regions has been presented in the Plaza 1 d'octubre in Salt, in front of the Coma Cros, where one of these vinyls has been installed. It has had the participation of the manager of the Girona Health Region, Jaume Heredia; the mayor of Salt, Jordi Viñas, the head of acute psychiatry and psychiatric emergencies at the Institute of Health Care (IAS), Domènec Serrano and the councilor for Health Jordi Subils.
