The deputy of Junts Alonso-Cuevillas leaves the Parliament

This Tuesday, Junts per Catalunya deputy Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas presented his resignation from his position as deputy in the Parliament to focus on his professional activity, the training announced. Cuevillas is a lawyer by profession and was in the team of lawyers who advised Carles Puigdemont in his defense against the accusations of rebellion and corruption made by the investigating judge Pablo Llarena for organizing the 1-O.

In an article in elMon.cat, Alonso-Cuevillas explained that he no longer feels "useful enough being part of a Parliament" in which he does not see, he assures, "effective possibilities to do anything to advance firmly towards the objective of the national freedom". The title of the text could not be clearer: "Step aside: I fully return to the world of law."

Cuevillas has served as a deputy in the Catalan Chamber since 2021 and was currently president of the Committee on the Statute of Deputies and a member of the Justice and Regulation committees.

In the general elections of April 2019 he was number one of Junts per Catalunya in Girona. He revalidated the seat in the November elections of that same year, but in December 2020 he resigned from the act to join the JxCat lists in the Catalan regional elections.

He was second secretary of the Parliament's Board, but only for a month: he questioned the admission for processing of resolutions that could disqualify the members of this governing body.
