The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced that the dancer and choreographer Jesús Carmona will be appointed artistic director of the Madrid Spanish ballet company, the new project with which the regional government intends to strengthen the cultural industry and exhibition of this type of initiatives.

This is how he advanced it after attending the 'Authentic Flamenco' show in New York, which is part of the international tour of the Teatro Real. The regional leader is in the city on a work trip that began on Saturday and will last until Tuesday to promote the Madrid brand.

Sources close to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports informed Servimedia that the Canal Choreographic Center will open a public call for auditions to select the first group of actors for the company, which will also have permanent headquarters in both the Canal Theaters and in the San Lorenzo El Escorial Auditorium.

Jesús Carmona is the 2020 National Dance Prize winner and a year later he won the Benois de la Danse Prize for the Best Dancer in the World, awarded by the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. He was also awarded in the 21st edition of the Community of Madrid Culture Awards in the dance category.

He will be responsible for directing the Madrid ballet that will disseminate the historical heritage of Spanish dance to promote a culture that combines dance, music, dramaturgy, scenography, literature, folklore and oral culture, while innovating with newly created choreographies.

The premiere of the Madrid ballet company is scheduled for the first half of 2024 at the Teatros del Canal, where it will perform steadily throughout the year before starting a national and international tour.

Within the actions of the Comprehensive Dance Plan, the Community of Madrid will promote talent and publicize the existing resources for the sector with the aim of strengthening the cultural industry and promoting its national and international presence.

To this end, through the Ministry of Education, artistic teaching will be reinforced by teaching, in this academic year, dance classes to 13,000 Primary Education students. 50 positions have been called for assistants, with degrees in Professional Education, to support this subject in public schools in the region and the plan will be extended to the rest of the schools starting next year.
