The Corts ratify the repeal of the tourist tax that never came into force

Three legislatures of debate, disagreements between PSPV, Compromís and Unides Podem and negotiations until the early hours of the morning to achieve a "voluntary and municipalist" tourist tax, will be in vain this Thursday when Les Corts votes to end "a tax that has not existed" with the validation of the Consell decree that repeals the tourist tax.

And it is that the Council of PP and Vox will complete tomorrow the repeal of the tourist tax law, which has not come into force due to the moratorium with which it was approved. The trustee of the PP in Les Corts, Miguel Barrachina, has framed this decree as the end of the "fiscal hell" in what he considers the Botanic to be included in the Valencian Community.

Vox deputy spokesperson Joaquín Alés has announced his group's support for this measure. He has considered that the approval of the tourist tax was an "untimely decision" in the midst of "galloping inflation."

The step that will be taken tomorrow will mean the "burying" of this tax, which took seven years to approve and which was debated in practically all of the Botànic's budgets. Finally, a year ago, the PSPV-PSOE, Compromís and Unides Podem - the latter now without parliamentary representation - gave the green light to this measure amidst applause from the left-wing bench, which was not joined by the then ' president', Ximo Puig.

His successor, Carlos Mazón, has championed the elimination of this tax, which has not come into force. In fact, he took the news to the London tourism fair, to the World Travel Market, where the Comunitat Valenciana was announced as a "tax free" destination.

This promotion has been the hook that the deputy spokesperson for the PSPV-PSOE, María José Salvador, has used to criticize the Government in the run-up to the debate in Parliament that took place today. Salvador considered that this promotion was "regrettable, ridiculous and obscene" and she has accused them of "politicizing the tourist tax" with a "hyperbolization" of the measure.

For her part, Aitana Mas (Compromís) has criticized that the PP boasts of "eliminating something that has not come into force" and has ironically said that "no one goes to Paris, Vienna, Venice, Barcelona or the Balearic Islands" because of this tax. "There are many cities around the world that have it and it has not caused them any problems," said the deputy spokesperson.
