The Consortium of Environmental Policies of the Ebro asks for local contributions against the black fly

Work to combat the black fly plague in the Ebro and Segre rivers began this week. In total, six treatments have been planned, the cost of which is around 535,000 euros.

This year, for the first time, the municipalities of Baix Ebre, Ribera de Ebro and the Provincial Council of Lleida must assume 25% of the cost - around 100,000 euros -, while the rest is borne by the Government and the Provincial Council of Tarragona.

"It is absolutely necessary for the local community to participate in this financing because otherwise all the actions will not be guaranteed," said Ivan Garcia, president of the Terres de l'Ebre Environmental Policy Consortium.

The entity has left it in the hands of the councils how to adopt its technical proposal on the distribution of financing.
