The companies that manage 72 nursery schools of the City Council in Madrid do not apply the salary increase of the agreement

Tomorrow will be the third day of strike in the 72 municipal nursery schools in Madrid, but with private management. The winning companies have not applied the salary increase agreed in 2021 for two years, which contemplated a salary increase of 5.5% until last September and another of 4.6% starting this year.

This strike is in addition to the one that some 80,000 teachers and educators in Spain are calling for due to job insecurity and who are demanding a new labor agreement with salary increases taking into account inflation and other social measures, such as greater family conciliation.

In the case of the capital's City Council schools, there is the aggravating factor that the winning companies, whether private companies or cooperatives, do not apply what was agreed upon two years ago to their employees. Given this situation, the employees have sent several letters to the area manager of the City Council demanding explanations.

The Department of Social Policies, Families and Equality of the Madrid City Council responds to La Vanguardia.com that "the workers of the 72 nursery schools indirectly managed by the City Council maintain an employment relationship with the company awarded the service and not with the City Council." That said, however, an official spokesperson for that area continues, "we demand that these companies comply with the current agreement and the economic conditions established therein." To put pressure on the successful bidders, the City Council explains that "in compliance with the contract law, the concessionaire companies are required to provide documentation that justifies compliance with the labor obligations provided for in the agreement."

And regarding the letters that are reaching the council, the same sources respond: "In response to specific letters that we are receiving through different channels communicating that some successful bidder companies have not applied the 5.5% salary increase included in the current agreement, we will proceed to review the information to verify compliance with the specifications."
