The cities of Barcelonès Nord agree to coordinate actions in Public Security

This morning, at the Contemporary Art Center of Can Sisteré in Santa Coloma de Gramanet, a meeting was held between the mayors of the municipalities of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Núria Parlon; from San Adrià de Besòs, Filo Cañete; from Badalona, Xavier Garcia Albiol; de Montcada i Reixach, Bartolomé Egea and the Deputy Mayor of Security of the Barcelona City Council, Albert Batlle, with the aim of improving police coordination between the municipalities of North Barcelonès.

The mayor, Núria Parlon, host of the meeting, commented that “we are taking a step forward in police coordination. “We have common problems and that is why we want to coordinate joint operations.” Parlon adds that “priorities have been set that we are going to transfer to the Local Police forces to increase effectiveness. "We will work in what is our competence and to meet the needs of citizens."

During the meeting, the councilors agreed to establish more effective coordination between their administrations from a comprehensive security perspective. In this sense, they have committed to the creation of an Intermunicipal Public Security Commission of Barcelonès Nord, which will meet quarterly and will alternate its sessions between the different Local Security Boards of each municipality.

Also, the municipalities have agreed to establish a space for operational coordination between the councilors responsible for citizen security. This area of work will have the participation of the police commanders of the local police forces, with the aim of jointly addressing the common problems related to security in the four cities and will define the main priorities for police action.

In this sense, the meeting identified as priorities public health controls and knives, carrying out coordinated territorial operations, fighting against illegal occupations with comprehensive actions, controlling and preventing fires and infractions derived from the drought emergency. Likewise, they will establish a joint operational communication system between police command rooms.

In relation to the possible actions to be carried out jointly to improve police coordination, it should be noted that the implementation of joint operations will be valued in the areas adjacent to the different cities, aimed mainly at carrying out alcohol and drug tests, traffic controls, circulation and transport of goods, fight against the illegal sale and control of edged weapons.

In a first phase, the Barcelonès Nord Intermunicipal Public Safety Commission will focus its work on monitoring the activities carried out in the Serralada de Marina and the Besòs River, working mainly on the prevention of forest fires and associated infractions, as well as in the control and monitoring actions of activities incompatible with the protection of the environment and the civic use of natural spaces. On the other hand, operational commands will establish, by mandate of the Commission, a permanent coordination and alert system to address mutual support actions beyond the planning of joint operations.

Finally, and as actions of special relevance, there will be permanent observation on crimes of gender violence, prostitution or crimes against property, monitoring and directing actions towards organized criminal groups. Likewise, the coordination of specialized units will be deepened, such as the USIR of Santa Coloma or the GEIP of Badalona, to fight against crimes of usurpation of real estate and, especially, against criminal occupations linked to organized groups. .
