The Chef's List: these are José Andrés' favorite restaurants

The renowned chef José Andrés is immersed in a wide variety of projects and continues to initiate others linked to gastronomy in a very broad sense. In addition to his multiple restaurants, he helps bring food to victims of the Ukrainian war and is trying to help in the Gaza Strip and Israel through the foundation he leads, World Central Kitchen. The latest project that he has launched is The Chef's List, where the Asturian chef shares his favorite restaurants in the world.

The objective is to create a list and little by little fill in a virtual map of the five continents with all kinds of places recommended by the chef and his team. In this way, Andrés aims to create a reference space for those who travel and for locals to discover new corners of his city. The project aims to be collaborative, so that in addition to the recommendations of the chef and his team, other chefs or gastronomy enthusiasts can share the places that they consider worthwhile.

"I'm excited to tell you about a project that I've been preparing for a while. People always ask me where to eat and drink when they visit Barcelona, Washington DC, Los Angeles or Puerto Rico," Andrés explained in a post on his Instagram profile. And he added that, for this reason, he has created "a new way to share with my followers all my favorite places to visit in the world, to eat, drink or live experiences."

The chef's first recommendations in this new list he has created are in Catalonia and Andalusia. One of his favorite places is, specifically, in Barcelona. This is the Granja Elena bar and restaurant, which opened its doors in the 1970s as a grocery store. The store was transformed into a family restaurant, now run by the third generation, where you can find some classic dishes and traditional stews.

For Andrés, it is “an incredible place to have breakfast and lunch”, where some dishes stand out such as Iberian ham, croquettes, cod omelette or capipota.

Another of the places that the chef wanted to share is located in Córdoba and is Casa Pepe de La Judería. A restaurant that seeks to explain the history of Andalusia through its bites and where you can try dishes such as candied artichokes, Moorish pinchos or spiced lamb skewers, in addition to the traditional gazpacho and salmorejo.

In addition to these first two stops, Andrés wanted to put together a list of places to eat in Barcelona, which include the La Boqueria market, Albert Adrià's Enigma and Albert Raurich's Dos Palillos.
