The Cercs fountain contrasts with the dry swamp

While the Baells reservoir remains low, the nearby Cercs springs come down with a lot of water, as can be seen in these photographs in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.

The Basseta fountain, also known as the Font Gran, is located within the urban area of Cercs, next to the Les Garrigues torrent and at the foot of the old Ribes road, which crosses the town.

There is a whole recreational area around the fountain, which is an ideal place to go for water and spend a day with the family. There is a picnic area next to the stream with small waterfalls.

It is one of the busiest and most visited fountains in the Berguedà region. Sometimes there is even a queue to fill water bottles.

The set is made up of the fountain and the laundry room. It is located on a small sunken terrace with respect to the road and elevated from the stream. The flowing water arises naturally, although it is channeled and equipped with eight fountains.

The laundry room was built in the early 1920s, while the roof was built around 1950. It is rectangular in shape with a single sink.

In contrast, the nearby Baells reservoir, which regulates the upper basin of the Llobregat river from Cercs, supplies water to the metropolitan area of Barcelona and produces hydroelectric power, is still very short of water.

The dam was inaugurated in 1976. Its construction caused the displacement of part of the population of the municipality of Sant Salvador de la Vadella, which was left under water, to a newly built town. With the drought, what was previously submerged now remains on the surface.
