The Can Deu pumpkin collection

In the Masía de Can Deu, near Sabadell, in the Vallès Occidental, we can see this fantastic collection of pumpkins, a characteristic image of this time of year, as seen in the Readers' Photos of La Vanguardia.

The Masía de Can Deu, documented since 1415, allows us to relive what the Valles peasant houses were like before the industrialization of the countryside, as highlighted by the Fundació Antiga Caixa Sabadell 1859.

Since the 15th century, several families owned the farmhouse: the Sallent-Deu, the Miquel, the Mornau... Some lived all year round, while for others the masia was a summer residence, but all of them carried out productive work there in the fields, as shown in the Museu de la Vida al Camp.

Thus, Can Deu has traditionally been an agricultural operation that specialized in the cultivation of vines until, at the end of the 19th century, the phylloxera crisis caused the abandonment of this crop.

The farmhouse itself has changed and grown over time depending on the interests of the owners at the time.

When in 1964, Caixa d'Estalvis Sabadell bought the Can Deu estate, the main objective was to maintain and publicize the rich natural, historical and cultural heritage that it holds and that, by extension, is a sample of the past. Vallesan.
