The Caldes Swimming Club, a historical entity that accumulates sporting successes and social activity

Not only is Barça more than a club. There are many entities rooted in the Catalan geography that offer something that goes far beyond sports facilities, and become authentic promoters of the social life of the town. This is the case of the Caldes Swimming Club, which was born on the night of February 7, 1956 in the plenary hall of the Caldes de Montbui City Council with the desire to offer the town a space where they could practice sports swimming and leisure, and which over the years has become a sporting and social reference.

In July of that year, the official opening of the outdoor pool took place. Since its creation, this non-profit entity has always evolved, incorporating facilities such as the sports court, changing rooms and other facilities for users around the pool. A key milestone that represented a great leap forward in the quality of the Club's proposal occurred in 1968, when the indoor pool was built, allowing users to practice water sports during the winter.

In 2006, racquet sports were added to the offer, at the La Font dels Enamorats facilities, and two years later the current CEM Les Cremades was inaugurated, thus completing a wide multi-sports proposal that serves this municipality of 17,000 inhabitants. . Parallel to the expansion of the facilities, the sports project has also grown over the years. Currently, it has swimming, water polo, basketball, indoor soccer, athletics, triathlon and paddle tennis sections, which bring together almost 550 federated athletes, while more than 2,750 members use the pool services, the gym equipment, the extensive program of guided activities and paddle tennis courts.

As a multi-sports club, and like so many swimming clubs in Catalonia, CN Caldes has suffered, in recent years, circumstances that have shaken the economic balance of the entity. The pandemic, the increase in energy costs experienced in 2021 and 2022, and the uncertainty caused by the current drought crisis, of which the Club admits that they do not know its final impact, represent a real challenge for this club. historical.

To face these challenges, the City Council has collaborated financially with the entity, which has a staff of about seventy workers and is led by a board that operates altruistically. However, the current problems have not been an obstacle for the Club to continue working, especially in grassroots sport, and achieving relevant sporting results. The women's futsal team, for example, has managed to reach the second national category. Also noteworthy are the achievements of the women's federated swimming categories, which have won several national medals. Partners, workers and the board have managed, with their efforts, to keep alive this important sports institution so linked to the history of the town of Caldes.
