The BWAW starts today claiming the role of women in the world of work

The third edition of the Barcelona Woman Acceleration

Week (BWAW) has started today in Barcelona with the aim of addressing the presence of women in industry and the labor market in general. The event, organized by the Consorci de la Zona Franca in the DFactory complex, was attended by prominent businessmen and institutional representatives.

"Currently, the foundations of a new era are being laid in which technology is playing a very relevant role. Most of the occupations in our country require tech skills, which is why we need programs that give visibility to women in these fields and, thus, generate female role models for future generations", said María Galindo García-Delgado, member of the Council for Neutral Climate and Smart Cities of the European Commission.

The event was attended by representatives such as Maria Eugènia Gay, delegate of the Government in Catalonia; Pere Navarro, Special Delegate of the State of the CZFB, Montserrat Pineda, of the Secretariat of Feminism of the Generalitat of Catalonia, José Luis Bonet, president of the Incyde Foundation of the Chambers of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, and Blanca Sorigué, director general of the CZFB.

Joana Barbany Freixa, business development director of the Page group, and Gabriela Chasifan, senior software developer and inclusion leader at Thoughtworks, among others, also attended the meeting. "There must be more women in careers such as engineering or mathematics because the technology sector already accounts for 10% of employment and women only account for 1.7%. The message is that we should be there because it is an opportunity," he said. Barbany.

In tomorrow's edition, the congress will also address the inclusion of women in the technology industry. Specifically, the topics it will address will be: success stories in the private sector, women's health and science, advantages of gender diversity in the financial world, challenges faced by women entrepreneurs and women entrepreneurs in vulnerable countries.
