The technical teams of the Suez Canal have refloated an oil tanker that paralyzed traffic on that important seaway for several hours this Sunday, so that "transit has returned to normal", according to official sources.

"Navigation is already regular in both directions," said the president of the Canal Management Authority, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, in a statement.

It also notes that "efforts for rapid intervention (to solve the problem of) mechanical failure in the tanker have been successful", and that the Maltese-flagged Seavigour "was moved by tugboats" for repairs.

The failure in the machines of the Seavigour, which was part of the northern convoy and came from Russia to China, had left several commercial ships stopped in the important seaway.

This was the fifth such incident since the beginning of the year, coming some ten days after the Hong Kong-flagged container ship Xin Hai Tong 23 ran aground, causing a traffic stoppage for several hours in the Hong Kong Channel. suez. Although none of the incidents has been as serious as the one that happened in 2021 with the Even Given, for which the Managing Authority of the Canal requested 850 million dollars in compensation.

The railway is one of the main sources of income for Egypt and, in 2022, it registered almost 8,000 million dollars.
